Veterans Trail Crew- Platte River Wilderness Area

Project Type: Trail Corridor Clearing

For Hitch 4, the Veterans Trail Crew returned to the Platte River Wilderness Area where they continued to clear trail corridor throughout the Wilderness Area. During their time in the Wilderness area, they cleared over 40 miles of trail and removed over 250 trees from the trail. Part of their hitch was spent packing in and camping in the backcountry in order to clear more trail effectively.

For their day off, the Veterans Trail Crew spent the day fishing at Lake Owen.

All Said and Done:

  • 11 miles of trail corridor cleared
  • 251 trees cut and removed from trail corridor

All-Women’s Crew- Laramie Peak, Lost Creek Trail

Project Type: Trail Remediation and Maintenance

For Hitch 4, the All-Women’s Crew headed over to Laramie Peak to begin work on Lost Creek Trail. During their time at Lost Creek Trail, they remediated and reestablished over a mile of trail and removed 9 fallen trees from the trail corridor.

For their day off, the All-Women’s Crew got Kayaks and floated down the Platte River through Douglas, Wy. Afterwards they enjoyed a meal out and some ice cream.

All Said and Done:

  • 1.02 miles of trail reestablished
  • 9 trees bucked and limbed from trail corridor

Crew 1- Buffalo BLM

Project Type: Wildlife Friendly Fencing and Land Reclamation

For Hitch 4, Crew 1 headed up to Buffalo, Wy to work with the Bureau of Land Management and Devon Energy to work land reclamation and wildlife friendly fencing. For the first part of their hitch, Crew 1 work on filling in old aquifer wells and the removal of old infrastructure from the work site. The second half of their hitch was spent removing old fencing from around the well sites.

For their day off, Crew 1 spent the day exploring Sheridan, went to the local carnival, and hung out downtown before heading back to camp.

All Said and Done:

  • 1.1 miles of barbed wire fence removed
  • 13 aquifer wells filled in/reclaimed

Crew 2- Nash Fork Campground, Medicine-Bow National Forest

Project Type: Campground Restoration

For Hitch 4, Crew 2 headed up to Nash Fork Campground up in the Snowy Range just west of Laramie. During their time at Nash Fork CG, Crew 2 constructed tent and living pads, filled them with dirt and tamped them, and installed fire rings throughout the campground.

For their day, part of the crew hung around camp and fished while the other part went for a hike. Afterwards they headed into Laramie to enjoy a meal out.

All Said and Done:

  • 5 Tent/Living pads constructed
  • 125 tent/living pads filled and tamped
  • 6 new fire rings installed

Crew 3- Trout Unlimited, Green River Chapter

Project Type: Waterway and Habitat Restoration

For Hitch 4, Crew 3 headed over to Baggs, Wy to work with Trout Unlimited Green River. Crew 3’s project was to construct Beaver Dam Analogs (BDAs) to expand riparian areas and create more fish spawning habitat. During their time working with Trout Unlimited, Crew 3 constructed 51 BDAs consisting of wood posts pounded into the creek bed then is woven with willows and packed with rocks, mud, and grass roots.

For their day off, Crew 3 headed over to Saratoga, Wy to enjoy a soak in the hot springs before heading over to the wildlife observatory. Afterwards, the crew enjoyed a meal out.

Crew 4- Savage Run Wilderness Area

Project Type: Trail Corridor Clearing

For Hitch 4, Crew 4 headed over to the Savage Run Wilderness Area located in the Medicine-Bow National Forest. Throughout their time in the Savage Run Wilderness, they worked on clearing the trail corridor on the Savage Run Trail, Cottonwood Trail, and Savage Run Extension Trail. During their time in the wilderness Crew 4 cleared 6 miles of trail corridor of fallen timber. The goal of the project is to reestablish the trails from the Mullen Fire damage.

For their day off, Crew 4 rented paddleboards and spent the day out on Rob Roy Reservoir before heading into town to enjoy a meal out.

All Said and Done:

  • Approx. 6 miles of trail corridor cleared
