Veterans Trail Crew – Invasive Cutting – City of Buffalo

Project type: Cutting of invasive Russian Olive Trees

For the VTC’s first hitch of the season they girdled or low stumped invasive Russian Olive trees along the City of Buffalo’s Green Way Trail and sewage pond. The crew also participated in the “Johnson County Hazardous Waste Disposal Day”

All said and done:
– 1224 Russian Olive trees removed or girdled and sprayed with herbicide.
– 535 gallons of paint removed.

Crew 1 – Invasive Species Mitigation – Carbon County

Project type: Invasive Species Mitigation

For Crew 1’s first hitch of the season they deconstructed overgrown wire fence and used backpack sprayers to combat hounds tongue throughout numerous areas.

All said and done:
– Removed 0.7 miles of fencing.
– Sprayed 8.1 acres of Hounds Tooth, Mullen, and Invasive Thistles.

Crew 2 – Vegetation Management – Grand Teton

Project type: Vegetation Management

Sponsored by: Grand Teton National Park and Corps Network

For Crew 2’s first hitch of the season they sprayed invasive species as groups and planted sagebrush saplings while being able to enjoy the spectacular views of the Grand Tetons.

All said and done:
– Sprayed over 105 acres of invasive species.
– Planted 120 Sagebrush saplings.

Crew 3 – Trail Maintenance – Pilot Hill

Project type: Trail maintenance, signage improvement, fencing removal

Sponsored by: Pilot Hill

For Crew 3’s first hitch of the season they worked locally at Pilot Hill. Their work included moving heavy log benches, removing old fencing and fencing posts, and repaired sections of trail throughout Pilot Hill.

All said and done:
– Fixed tread and improved drainage on 3 miles of trail.
– Removed 1 mile of barb wire fencing.

Crew 4 – Facilities Management – Curt Gowdy

Project type: Facilities Maintenance

Sponsored by: Wyoming State Parks

For Crew 4’s first project of the summer they worked at Curt Gowdy State Park staining bridges throughout the park and doing other maintenance on trails to include rock work, clearing, and chainsaws.

All said and done:
– Bucked and limbed 25 fallen trees over trail.
– Built over 196 yards of new trail.
– Stained 8 Bridges, protecting the wood from the elements.
