Crew 1- Medicine Bow National Forest- Trails

Crew 1 spent their time around Med Bow Peak and in the Savage Run Wilderness working to clear over 17 miles of trail. The work consisted of primarily cutting out deadfall, the crew cleared out 157 trees with a chainsaw and 389 trees with crosscut saws.

For the crews educational component they learned wilderness regulations and land use disputes with enforcements of regulations.

On the crews off day they relaxed in the sun and water at Rob Roy Resivoir.

All said and done:

  • 17.15 Miles of Trail Cleared
  • 157 Trees Cleared via Chainsaw
  • 389 Trees Cleared via Crosscut

Crew 2- Bighorn National Forest- Trails

Crew 2 spent their time completing trail maintenance just up from HF Bar Ranch outside of Buffalo Wyoming. The work consisted of lots of trail armoring through wet sections of a canyon and an abundance of lopping the corridor so the trail could be seen again!

For the crews educational component they learned about fire ecology and a recent burn area. They also had the opportunity to visit the Fetterman Butte Field.

On the crews off day they went to Sheridan for a stroll downtown before going out for dinner.

All said and done:

  • 0.25 Miles of Heavy Trail Armoring
  • 2 Miles of Corridor Clearing

Crew 3- Medicine Bow National Forest- Trails

Crew 3 spent their time clearing trails all over Medicine Bow National Forest. They hiked and cleared a total of 42 miles of trails on the East side of Med Bow Peak. A majority of the work consisted of clearing trees with a chainsaw and some with a Crosscut.

For the crews educational component they got to learn how to mountain bike and ride some of the trails they worked to clear!

On the crews day off they traveled to Laramie to go to the Rec Center!

All said and done:

  • 42 Miles of Trail Cleared
  • 25 Trees Felled
  • 53 Trees Cleared Bucked Up

 

Veterans Trail Crew- Hot Springs State Park- Trails

During the VTC’s time in Thermopolis they began construction on a trail on “T-Hill.” For this the crew cleared a 3 mile corridor of juniper trees for the new trail. They also dug in a 1/2 mile of trail and placed 20 feet of rock retaining wall and 2 rock turnpikes.

For the crews educational component they visited the Dinosaur Museum and floated Wedding of the Waters.

For the crews off day they floated the Big Horn River!

All said and done:

  • 3 Miles of Corridor Cleared
  • 480 Feet of Rock Walls Constructed
  • 1/2 Mile of Trail Dug
